Visiting Barcelona with Kids

Last month we decided to take a last minute trip to Barcelona and Sitges (which is a beautiful seaside resort a few miles outside of Barcelona), just before Easter. The girls were off school and I managed to find some super cheap flights (thanks to the Brexit fiasco), so I thought why not? I’ve always loved Barcelona, I’ve been a few times but have never taken the kids – to be honest I wasn’t sure if the girls would appreciate a ‘city break’ with all the walking involved but they took to it brilliantly!! As long as we stopped often for drinks and snacks, which is easily done in Barcelona, they were happy.

As you can see from these pictures, we were lucky with the weather. We had sunshine every day and temperatures were in the mid to high teens, which was perfect for walking around and discovering the city. It would definitely be a lot hotter (and much busier) in the summer months. At this time of year you can happily stroll along the quiet beaches, almost having the place to yourself.  However, the big Gaudi tourist attractions will always be busy – no matter what time of year you visit Barcelona, so be prepared and book ahead if you plan on visiting any of the Gaudi destinations, like; La Sagrada Familia, Casa Mila or Park Guell.

We loved the Picasso Museum, La Boqueria Food Market, the beaches of Barcelona, Ciutadella Park and Santa Maria del Mar Cathedral, which were mostly all free (other than the Picasso Museum). We also really enjoyed all the tapas food and the incredible hot chocolate and ice cream selections on offer.

If you’ve ever visited Sitges in the summer months you’ll know how busy this beach can get, however in April you can  have the beautiful sands to yourself! We loved our time here, it’s such a beautiful place, that reminds me of glamorous, old school Riviera resorts.

The girls are wearing our favourite picks from this season’s Marks and Spencer Kids range in this post. The dresses and playsuits are all cute and playful with lots of colour and character. I especially love the bird collar dress that Poppy’s wearing in the last picture and the gorgeous yellow button-down dress seen above.

Disclaimer: We were sent some of these dresses and playsuits from our friends and M&S, with no obligation to feature. I was not paid for this post.

Your trip looked lovely on Insta. I do love a city break but never thought of Barcelona. There’s so many I must add to the list x

I am DESPERATE to visit Barcelona! Sitges looks beautiful too. We’re doing a city break in Boston soon and if that goes well I think we might need to make Barcelona next on our travel list.
