Sisters in August - The Siblings Project

We’re half way through another month, which means it’s time for the siblings project, a monthly linky that explores the growing relationship and milestones of our children.

The girls are I have spent the past week staying with my parents in West Wales, where the weather’s been lovely! Although it’s now taken a turn for the worst. The beginning of the week was so nice that we spent two whole days playing on the beaches of ‘Cei Bach’ and Penbryn in Cardigan Bay - which is where I took this month’s pictures.

I spent my childhood summers on these beaches - along with New Quay, Llangranog and Tresaith. I love bringing the girls back to these beaches every year, I’m determined that they get to experience some of my childhood, even though they’re growing up just outside London. These beaches brings back so many happy memories for me and now I get to share them with my babies. What’s even more special is that I know my mum spent a lot of time on these same beaches as a girl, as did her dad (my granddad).

Lili is such a water baby, she ran into the sea on both days screaming ‘the cold doesn’t bother me’ and spent a long time splashing around in the freezing water. Poppy on the other hand was not so keen on the water and preferred to spend her time building sand castles and playing ball with my dad. Although, she preferred it when Lili was with her, helping her to build a ‘sand castle village’.

We’re now over three weeks into the summer holidays and these two are thriving in each other’s company. I know that Poppy loves having her big sister to play with every day and although they do argue (and find it difficult to share), on the whole they do play well together. Their role play games make me smile, as I hear them interact and make up stories and different scenarios. Their favourite game seems to be ‘schools’, where one plays the role of the teacher and the other (usually Poppy) is the teacher’s assistant - their toys are the ‘children’!

We have another week in Wales before we go home to prepare for Lili’s big return to school and Poppy’s first day at preschool. I still can’t believe my baby is already old enough to start preschool! It’s going to be a big transition for me but I know that she’s more than ready, especially after she spent a few days there at the beginning of the month - when Lili and Poppy both went to Summer Camp in the preschool building. They both loved going and I think its worked really well as a way to prepare Poppy for the big day. I just hope she doesn’t get too upset when she has to go alone in a few weeks.

The only down side of being here in Wales, is that we all miss ‘daddy’, as he had to stay home to work. Lili finds it more tough as she’s much more sensitive than her baby sister. She’ll tell me (mostly at bed time) how much she misses him and wants to see him. We’ve managed some FaceTime sessions, which have been good for the girls and me.
