How to Make Your Home Warm & Cosy for Winter

With winter just around the corner, now is the perfect time to make some changes to your home to make it a cosy, warm and inviting space for the colder months ahead. There are lots of different ways that you can achieve this through interior design, here are just a few ideas…

Curtains

One of the biggest changes you can make is to your window dressings. During the summer months you may have wanted something light and easy like a blind. However, during the colder months it’s nice to be able to shut out the outside world and keep the heat inside your home, which is why it’s a good idea to hang up some thick curtains. If you opt for deeper shades like burgundy or maroon it can also help to create a much warmer and more cosy atmosphere.

Fireside Accessories

If you are fortunate enough to have a fireplace in your home, this is sure to get good usage during the winter months. You can make this an even more attractive space with stylish fireside accessories from places like Cox & Cox. A few good options include a log basket, a fire screen and maybe a fire poker set.

Rugs

A lovely thick rug can make a room look and feel warm and cosy especially if you have wooden floors. This is also a good way to add colour and style to a room, without having to make drastic changes to your flooring.

Wall Colour

If you fancy making a big change, you could always paint your walls a different colour which will completely transform the space. Warm/ dark shades are perfect for the colder months of the year when you’re after that cosy, relaxed feel. Don’t be scared of those dark shades as they are actually much easier to accessorise to create a stylish, finished room.

Ambient Lighting

Lighting is an incredibly powerful tool when it comes to interior design and can really help to set the mood in a room. Ambient lighting is highly effective during the winter months and helps to create a feeling of warmth and cosiness. Additionally, candles are a lovely way of making a room look and smell warm and inviting.

During the winter months I want to make my home look and feel as warm and inviting as possible so that my family and I can unwind and hibernate from the cold weather outside. One of my favourite winter accessories has to be a big fluffy blanket to throw over my legs while watching TV.

These ideas are just a few suggestions on how you could get your home ready for the winter months and create a stylish, warm and comfortable space that you look forward to coming back to each day.
