We’re going on a conker hunt…

Today was what I would call the perfect Autumn day, warm, sunny and lots of beautiful colours. We’re lucky enough to have a stunning park literally on our doorstep and this afternoon we decided to go on a ‘conker hunt’ - after spending some time at the playground first (of course). The trees in the park were the picture of autumn and it was fun to be free, run around and play in our ‘extended’ back garden.

The girls were very excited about collecting conkers, although I’m not sure if they knew exactly what they were or what we’d do with them, so dad had to explain a few things first…

Once we’d collected all those conkers, we had to think what we could do with them. After a quick look through Pinterest, we talked about painting them in the garden but the girls were too tired once we got back, so I made do with this little autumnal decoration idea…

Maybe we can get our paint brushes out tomorrow? What do you do with your conkers?

  1. Lovely photos from a great park. How wonderful to have this so close to home and I think this is an inspired use of your conker collection. Thank you for sharing your fun with me on Country Kids

    • Thank you hon! We really did have a lovely day, out of having no plans and it was great to actually do something with them. The living room felt very autumnal last night!

  2. what a lovely idea, I love how their bright clothes contrast on the snaps. I am really loving the centre piece too, I wouldn’t paint them, think it looks great. You’ve reminded me that the girls and I had thought of an autumn craft to do, I don’t think I wanted to accept that it was autumn yet, even though I love the season. Wasn’t quite ready to let Summer go. These beautiful pictures have changed my mind :)

  3. Ah so so gorgeous, what lovely photos and it looks like a very simple but fun adventure- the best kind if you ask me. I love her yellow cardi! We haven’t been out to collect conkers yet but Mads found one at the park yesterday and is sleeping with it under her pillow tonight, bless her! x

    • Ah thank you! We had a great day - from having no plans came this beautiful family day out in the park. Oh bless Mads, sounds like she’s very proud of her little find! Thanks for commenting xx

  4. Ah lovely pictures - we do this every year - it’s our little autumn ritual! This year we picked up leaves too and the girls loved looking at the colours. We’ve put our conkers in a vase this year as a table centrepiece.

  5. In Poland big Autumn tradition is to build a little men/animals (you name it)
Here is the link to one of the websites with some pictures, you can use the wine opener and matches or just playdough(safer option for small children) to make these. Lots of fun for kids.

  6. i come from silent sunday… your girls are soooo cute…
near our house there aren’t conkers but hazelnuts, so we go hunting hazelnuts, except they’re not for decoration but for our bellies ;)

  7. What a beautiful park and lovely photos. I love that you turned your conkers into a centrepiece - I’ve been thinking about doing something similar. #brilliantblogposts

  8. Wow! What a fabulous day to spend with your family. You’ve inspired me to go in search of a cooker tree with my own family. It’s too pretty a time of year to miss it really isn’t it!! And what a great idea of how to display your haul in the home!! Love it!!

  9. Some of our favourite memories are conker collecting. We of course had conker fights which were the main reason we collected but I have heard that if you put conkers round your door it stops the spiders coming into the house.
