Protect Your Kids in Style with Sunuva

sunuva, swimwear, kidswear, beachwearNow that I’ve booked our summer holiday and I know that we’re heading to the South of France, I can get down to the fun part, shopping for our holiday clothes!

Children’s skin is thinner and far more sensitive than ours, and can get damaged very easily. So it goes without saying that I want to make sure that the girls are always protected from the sun with a high factor sun cream and the best protective clothing. Basically, their clothes need to be protective and look pretty!

This is why Sunuva’s new beachwear is my latest kids wear obsession. They offer stylish UV sun-protective solutions that are super cool and great quality. When I say they are stylish, I mean STYLISH!! Even Harper Beckham (probably the most stylish little girl on the planet) has been spotted in their bikinis and vests (I must admit the bikini she was pictured in is so cute, I had to get it for Pops too).

This is our Sunuva Shopping List…

Full protection…
Sunuva’s swimwear are made from Italian fabric providing 50+ UV protection, blocking out 97.5% – 98% of the sun’s rays.

By ensuring your children get into the habit of wearing protective swimwear… you will be helping them to develop the right habits for their future health.”

Me and Mine – June {A Family Portrait Project}

me and mine, familyIt’s the end of June and half way through the year, which means it’s time to join in with the ‘Me and Mine’ family portrait project. It’s been another busy month for us. We’ve celebrate Lili’s 5th birthday (how can that be? Five years old, already!) and I’ve attend not one but two blogging conferences.

We also celebrated Father’s Day, with a day planned by the girls. Note to self; don’t ask a five year old to come up with a day’s agenda, because you’ll end up (as we did) at the cinema for a morning screening of Spongebob Squarepants followed by a burger restaurant for lunch. Thankfully, we all had a good time and I managed to sleep through the terrible movie (basically it was the day after BritMums Live – a two day conference so I was exhausted).

Theses family shots were taken at Hobbledown Farm, where Lils had her birthday party…

The Importance of Capturing Holiday Memories

Having talked about it for months and spending hours searching the net, I finally booked our summer holiday this week. I’ve toyed with the idea of so many different options, from family friendly package holidays to villas and self catered holiday homes. In the end (after talking it through with my husband) we opted for this beautiful holiday home in Provence – just half an hour drive from Marseille airport.

holiday.house

It looks so beautiful with breathtaking views, I can’t wait to get there! I just hope it looks as amazing in real life.

Since I started blogging, I’ve really got into photography (slowly, learning as I go), so I can’t wait to get to Provence and start snapping these stunning views for myself! There’s something so magical about holiday pictures, they offer the perfect way of capturing a moment in time you never want to forget and preserving the views in your mind forever.

dslr, camera, canon, digital photography

Here are my top 5 tips for holiday photography

1) Take pictures of everything from buildings to food, people to random objects – it all adds to the full memory of the holiday. Basically snap away, you can always delete anything you don’t need or like.

2) Try different angles to get the perfect shot. I will quite often take dozens of pictures of the same view to get the picture just right.

3) Plan ahead. Make sure your battery is charged and your memory cards are clear.

4) Use a zoom lens to take pictures of the kids when they’re happily playing and don’t know your snapping. This way you’ll get a natural shot and no false smiles or annoyed faces.

5) Involve the kids by giving them a disposable camera. You never know what they’ll take and it gets them interested in photography and capturing holiday memories at an early age. I often let the girls free with my phone camera, it’s lovely to see the world through their eyes.

A Year on and Realising I CAN DO THIS! – Starting a Blog

starting a blog, start a blog, blog birthdayIt’s Friday night, it’s warm and the back doors are open, Glastonbury is on the telly and suddenly it hits me! I’m sat on the sofa, iPad in hand, just as I was this time last year, the night I decided I wanted to start a blog.

I remember feeling totally overwhelmed and not really sure if I could pull it off. I’d been reading blogs for a while, so had an idea of the type of site I wanted to create but wasn’t sure where or how to start. Suddenly, with the music of Glastonbury in the background I started writing an About Me page, this seemed like a good place to start. After half an hour I showed my first draft to my shocked husband (he had no idea what I’d been doing or that I was even thinking of starting a blog), he smiled and told me to go for it!

Over that weekend I googled ‘how to start a blog’ and got down to some serious research, by Sunday night I’d set up Running in Lavender. The idea behind the blog was (and still is) a simple one – I blog about the things in life that make me happy. It’s also a journal of my family life, that we can look back on in years to come.

At first I didn’t know what I was doing or if anyone cared but slowly my confidence grew and so did my followers. It didn’t happen over night, the first six months was tough and I worked hard to crack Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. I set myself mini goals, which helped and I somehow managed to hit each one.

As the year went on, I realised that this was becoming more than a hobby. I started talking to brands and in November I got my first sponsored post. I also got invited to some events, which meant meeting other bloggers. It soon became clear to me that the blogging community was/ is an incredibly supportive group of people who help and promote each other at every opportunity.

So a whole year has now passed and as I look back on the months, I can’t help but feel just a little proud of myself. Here are a few of my highlights…

1) Working with brands including Royal Caribbean, Dove, Lumie, First Choice, SnapTrip, Poppy England, Gousto and Total Diet Food to name a few.

2) Making the BiBs Finals for Fresh Voice. I’ve never been nominated for anything before, so this was very exciting!

3) Hitting 4,500 followers on Twitter and 1,200 followers on Instagram.

4) Meeting some absolutely amazing bloggers and making some great friends.

5) Being invited by Royal Caribbean onboard their brand new ship Anthem of the Seas for the weekend.

6) Reaching number 177 in the Tots100. I’ve climbed up the rankings from 1,446 where I started last year.

7) Attending Blogfest, Blogtacular and BritMums Live. All three events were fun and inspiring in their own way, I can’t wait to attend the next one.

Today, I was sent the following testimonial from my BritMums sponsor Lumie. Receiving this really made me realise how far I’ve come in a year and left me speechless…

“‘Lumie started working with Heledd in December 2014 when she featured Lumie Bodyclock Starter in her post ‘Becoming a Morning Person’. Lumie then went with Heledd to BritMums Live 2015 as her sponsor. As well as being a brilliant blogger – we were delighted and proud that Heledd made the short list in the ‘Fresh Voice’ category for this year’s Brilliance in Blogging Awards – Heledd is very professional to work with and completely understands how to nurture the brand-blogger relationship; she regularly tweets about Lumie, shares the Lumie love with other bloggers and engages with our social media where relevant. If you’re a brand wanting to connect with a quality blogger that’s going places, then Running in Lavender is a great place to start.”

Ruth Jackson, PR Manager.

So here I am, still sat on the sofa, still listening to Glastonbury and feeling very happy that I decided to take the plunge last year. Thank you all for your support and for reading my little blog. Let’s see what the next year has in store…

My Captured Moment #25

Welcome to My Captured Moment, a weekly linky where I share my favourite ‘Captured Moments’ and invite you to do the same.

This week my ‘My Captured Moment’ is an old favourite of mine. As Sunday was Father’s Day, I thought I’d use this post to celebrate my wonderful dad, the man I’ve loved the longest. He’s always made me feel so safe and truly loved, in a way that only dads can.

I know that I will always be this little girl in his eye, even though I am now a wife and mother.

This shot was taken on our holiday in Corfu (circa 1987).

My Beauty Hub with Amy from Everything Mummy

everything.mummy

Welcome to this month’s Beauty Hub post, where I ask my blogging buddies about their beauty routines and favourite products. A few months ago I shared my favourite beauty products and recommendations in a post called My Beauty Hub Q&A. This month my beautiful (inside and out) friend Amy, who writes a blog and vlogs at Everything Mummy is sharing her favourite products and answering the same Beauty Hub questions…

1) What is your day time make-up uniform?
If I’m having a good skin day it’ll be concealer and a little bronzer. I also use Barry M’s Brow Kit on my eye brows, usually a neutral eye shadows, black mascara and some lippy.

beauty hub, barry m, brow kit
 2) What do you use to wash/ cleanse your face?

I use Clean and Clean Daily Exfoliating face wash with my Braun Face Cleanser as well as Garnier Micellar Water.

3) What is your most indulgent beauty product?
I don’t really spend that much on cosmetics, I tend to stick to the high street brands as I think they’re great quality at a good price. I can get a little carried away at the Mac counter though!

4) What is your favourite super market beauty product?
Probably Simple’s Hydrating Moisturiser. I’ve been using it forever, its the only thing that doesn’t flare up my sensitive skin.

beauty hub, simple, hydrating

5) Do you have a favourite body product?
I love using Soap and Glory’s Body Butters, they’re so thick and creamy, and smell amazing.

beauty hub, soap and glory, body butter

6) What would be your desert island beauty item?
A Body Shop lip balm, I can’t stand my lips getting dry.

7) What is your number one hair care product?
Vo5’s Plump It Up dry shampoo.

beauty hub, vo5, dry shampoo

8) You’re at a Spa, what treatment would you choose?
A facial.

9) Do you have a signature scent?
I’m not sure… I have been wear Armani Diamonds for a while now.

beauty hub, diamonds, armani

10) What do you use in the bath?
I  don’t have baths too often, so when I do, I like to use a Lush bath bomb for a  special treat!

I’m going to be continuing to ask my blogging friends these same questions and serialising their answers in this monthly Beauty Hub post. If you’d like me to feature you in My Beauty Hub, please copy these questions and email me you answers (heleddinlavender@gmail.com), along with your blog URL, social media details and a picture of yourself.

Thanks for taking part Amy xxx

My Captured Moment #24

Welcome to My Captured Moment, a weekly linky where I share my favourite ‘Captured Moments’ and invite you to do the same.

This week my ‘My Captured Moment’ is a familiar one! It’s getting to that time of year (the lavender fields are in bloom) and I suddenly realised that I haven’t actually used this shot yet! Other than in the badge of course.

This picture was taken last year, just before I set up this blog and is the true inspiration behind its name. I can’t wait for this year’s visit and of course it’ll have an extra special meaning for me this year.

Total Diet Food – Gourmet, Healthy Meals Delivered To Your Door

I’m the first to admit that I’m not too healthy when it comes to food. Don’t get me wrong, I love cooking and always make my meals from scratch but I know I should eat more vegetables and cut down on the chocolate and cake. I always make sure the girls have a healthy balanced diet but don’t seem to have the same discipline when it comes to my own (and my husband’s) meals.  I know that eating good, healthy food would give me more energy but I’m easily distracted by chocolate, sugary cereals and creamy pasta dishes.

That being said, I do want to be more healthy so when I was approached by TotalDietFood.com to review their ‘gourmet, healthy meals’ I thought it would be a great way to click-start my healthier eating plan.

total diet food, food delivery

TotalDietFood.com is a personalised food delivery service, available throughout London. Their food plans are designed to be incredibly personalised, as well as fresh and of the highest quality.  As we all have our likes, dislikes and allergies TotalDietFood.com make sure these factors are taken into account, to ensure each plan is perfectly tailored to the needs and requests to each customer.

How does it work?

Step 1. You have a quick, friendly call with a Senior Nutritional Advisor, where you’ll discuss your personal preferences and requirements. S/he will then calculate how many calories you need to reach your health goal – this based on your current weight, height and plan goal.

Step 2. Arrange dates for your food delivery.

Step 3. A cool bag of fresh, healthy food (personalised to your preference and diet plan) is delivered to your doorstep as you sleep.

This is how I got on…

As I mentioned in the video, for me this would be a ‘healthy eating plan’ not a diet, as I’m not too concerned about my current weight. This is a message I want to pass on to my daughters, there is so much pressure out there to look thin and I don’t want them to ever get that pressure from our home. Eating is a joy and being healthy is far more important than being too thin.

My Verdict

This is not a cheap way to eat, however it is also not unrealistically expensive (£29.99 – £36.99 per day, depending on the plan you sign up for). If you’re busy and don’t have time to plan your meals and make sure you’ve got all the ingredients you need to make a home cooked meal every night, this would be a great option. You have three meals all done and prepared for you and you know it’s going to be healthy, delicious and only include ingredients you’ve approved – so no nasty surprises!

I honestly did enjoy every meal and snack and felt full after each one. It’s also made me realise that healthy food does not have to be bland. This revelation has had me reaching for my Gwyneth Paltrow and Deliciously Ella cook books with a new found enthusiasm.

My Meals Included…

Thank you TotalDietFood.com for sending me this one day plan to review.

Disclaimer: I was sent this one day trial in return for an honest review.

Sisters in June – The Siblings Project

sisters.in.june.2

Can time please slow down?! I feel like it was only last week I was sat here writing my Sisters in May post and now here I am again.

We’ve had a busy few weeks celebrating my birthday, followed a few days later by Lili’s 5th birthday. Her actual birthday fell on a Tuesday this year, which meant she was at school for most of the day. This is the first year I’ve not spent the whole day with her on her birthday, which made me feel slightly sad. To be honest, I did think about keeping her home, so that we could go to Lego Land or somewhere similar and really celebrate the day (like we’ve done the past few years) – but then ‘parental responsibility’ kicked in and I realised that I couldn’t do that. She’s now five years old and has to go to school! As it turned out she had the ‘best day ever’ at school (her words) because she had special treatment from everyone and  was called up in assembly where everyone sang happy birthday to her.

This year we also held her first proper birthday party, which we had at Hobbledown Farm in Epsom. We invited lots of her school friends and she had the most amazing birthday cake made by my super talented sister-in-law. It was a three tier chocolate and vanilla cake, decorated to look like a scene from Frozen… it even had mini characters and tasted gorgeous. As you can imagine the birthday girl was completely over the moon! If you fancy taking a look, you can see some pictures on my Instagram feed.

Other news is that Poppy has now officially had enough of her cot bed and is desperate for a ‘big girl bed’. We literally have to have the same conversation with her every night, as she complains and climbs out of the cot. This little one is in such a rush to grow up and be just like her big sister, who she really looks up to. She’s also told us that she no longer wants to wear nappies as they’re for ‘babies’ and of course she’s ‘not a baby’. In all fairness she is two and a half and potty training is something that’s been on my ‘to do list’ for the past few months – I was just waiting for the weather to get warmer (honest!)

So in summery, one of my babies is now FIVE years old! And the little one is graduating to a big girl bed and out of nappies all at once. Like I said at the beginning of this post, can time please start to slow down?!

sisters.in.june.1 sistrs-in-june-4 sisters-in-juneThese shots were taken last week at Polsden Lacey, my favourite National Trust venue in Surrey. As you can see Poppy took a liking to my hat, which she actually wore for most of the day. She’s so into her accessories; hats, necklaces, headbands, sun glasses, handbags, you name it, she wants it!

My Captured Moment #23

Welcome to My Captured Moment, a weekly linky where I share my favourite ‘Captured Moments’ and invite you to do the same.

This week my ‘My Captured Moment’ is a funny example of how difficult it can be to get the perfect family shot. Inevitably someone is not looking, blinks or one of the kids will pull a funny face or worse a tantrum.

This is a picture my husband put on his Instagram account depicting a lovely family shot on a beautiful day out…

This picture is what I would call an Instasham! Because in reality the above shot was cropped – this was the original captured moment…

Poor little thing!! We’re still not sure what she was so upset about. Possibly, she’d just had enough of taking pictures! Ha ha ha…
