Behind the Scenes of Our Homebase Christmas Video with Mumsnet

Christmas has been in the air for us since the middle of October, when we shot a festive ‘tree challenge’ video for Homebase and Mumsnet. They told us to go wild in the aisles of our local Homebase and get everything we’d need to decorate two Christmas trees. The girls were going to decorate one in their bedroom and I was to decorate a second (with their help) in the kitchen – the ‘challenge’ was to decorate the best tree.

We had so much fun running around the shop, looking at all the pretty decorations and playing with the Christmas toys. The other shoppers must have thought we were some Christmas crazed lunatics with our trollys bursting with Christmas decorations, lights, tinsel… literally everything you can imagine, including a Merry Christmas door mat! We also had a camera crew (from Mumsnet) following us around, so we definitely stood out!

Homebase is a brilliant one stop shop for all your Christmas decoration needs, from; tress, ornaments of all shapes and sizes, singing and dancing toys, festive signs, twinkly lights and so much more. The girls were especially taken by a talking Penguin that repeats everything you say, which was a bargain at £15. They’re still playing with it a month and a half later, a sure sign of a good toy!

Once we were home it was time to get everything set up, from the cameras to the trees, lights and decorations. I wonder what the neighbours thought when they saw all the Christmas decorations, and a camera crew walking into our house on a random October afternoon?

As we decorated the trees we had christmas music playing in the background and some festive nibbles to enjoy as we ‘worked’, to create a christmasy atmosphere to the day.

As you can see from the pictures (above) and the video (below) we had a great day. Incase you were wondering, we did take down the tree in the kitchen because we had Poppy’s Halloween birthday party a few days later but the kids did keep their tree up in the bedroom, so they’re all set for the real festive season to begin.

Here’s the finished Homebase Christmas Video…

Oh Heledd you have me feeling all festive, we have the same tradition – we pick a new bauble each year and listen to festive music as we decorate the tree. Such magical memories. I love the girls tree but have to stick with the traditional tree so I’m with you on yours. Gorgeous video x

Oh I loved this when I watched your video. It was fab. A camera crew is so fun having follow the family around. If only we always had one to shoot and edit for us how amazing would that be. This is gorgeous. Memories made too! #wrc
